The Sandston Parent Teacher Association was first organized in 1934. Our students are where you see S.T.A.R.S. – Students That Are Reaching for Success.

What is the Parent Teacher Association (PTA)?

As the largest volunteer child advocacy association in the nation, Parent Teacher Association (PTA) reminds our country of its obligations to children and provides parents and families with a powerful voice to speak on behalf of every child while providing the best tools for parents to help their children be successful students.

PTA does not act alone. Working in cooperation with many national education, health, safety, and child advocacy groups and federal agencies, the national PTA organization collaborates on projects that benefit children and that bring valuable resources to its members.

A Walk Through PTA History

National PTA has a long history of reminding our nation of its obligations to children and providing resources and important information to parents and teachers. Our mission is the same today as it was more than 100 years ago — to better the lives of all children.

Enforcing Child Labor Laws—As the U.S. became more industrialized, child labor became a growing concern. The National PTA advocated for child labor laws to protect against unsafe working practices and conditions for youth.

In 1900, the PTA formed an Advisory Council (of fathers), chaired by Theodore Roosevelt, Roosevelt accepted the appointment to the Advisory Council immediately and served as its chair until his death in 1919.

What does the PTA do for our S.T.A.R.S?

Our members contribute significantly to our S.T.A.R.S educational, health, safety and welfare by participating and volunteering their time towards educational achievements that involve before, during, and after school activities.  The PTA also provides up-to-date information on what is going on at Sandston  Elementary School and the upcoming events.  As a Sandston PTA member, you help our S.T.A.R.S soar as Skyhawks, you can interact with the principal, decide how to make and spend PTA funds, and work with other dedicated parents and teachers at every meeting.

PTA Calendar of Events

All meetings take place at 6:30 and last 15 minutes.  The allocated time allows our S.T.A.R.S to prepare for their special night and gives our community time to hear the current PTA news.
