About Us

The original Sandston Elementary School was located on the current acreage at the corner of Naglee Avenue and Union Street. The old army hospital served as the first Sandston School beginning in 1923. It was later torn down when the current school was built and opened in 1939. Additions have been made in the years 1951, 1955, and 2002, including a major renovation in 2003. Sandston was named for Oliver J. Sands who invested in and planned the community of Sandston after World War I. Sandston Elementary is located in the Varina District.
